John McCain's daughter Meghan has launched her own (sorta) campaign blog: McCainBlogette.com, a "fresh perspective on what is sometimes perceived as a stale and boring process."
Meghan and her two co-bloggers plan to post from Dad's campaign bus about "musings and pop culture on the campaign trail." I'm all for pop culture, so this is already better than the Rommney brothers' groupblog. Beyond that, though, I'm mainly just scratching my head.
Nothing on the site so far is exactly presidential, or even terribly interesting. And while "the Blogettes" have put together a nice slick design -- dig the rounded-corner snapshots! -- there's nothing there that is going to impress the techie/online -politics crowd.
So is this just another experiment as folks figure out online politicking for 2008? A clumsy attempt by a septugenarian candidate to recapture his Campaign 2000 hipness after this year's stumbles? Or a sign that McCain doesn't really give a crap how it plays, and is happily letting his daughter have some fun? (Not to mention get her name out there. Meghan is a recent college grad, and will presumably need a job when her big bus trip is finished.)
Maybe it's just residual media love for McCain from 2000, but I tend to lean toward Explanation #3. And actually, that makes me like him just a little bit more.
Which may well be what some campaign adviser had planned all along...

You've got to be sh1tt1ng me. The Mccainblogette is so interesting? It's sophmoric! Nothing but snapshots of Meghan's family and friends on various planes and buses. No observations, no policy, and absolutely no analysis of anything remotely issue related. This from a college graduate?
Furthermore, there is no place for readers to leave any public comments. Comments are also disabled from all Youtube media as well. So it's reaching to even call this a blog---more like a junior high school cheerleader's collection of snapshots of her clique.
